Taisuke Nakano is a Tokyo-based photographer whose book Spin around the Night Consumed by the Fire received the Grand Prix at the 5th FUGENSHA Photo Award in 2025.

The project began with an unsettling coincidence. In 2000, a murder took place at a cruising park in Tokyo, and the perpetrator had the same name as Nakano. As a gay man, he was struck by the event and began to imagine the ghost of the man who was killed still wandering through the park. From this starting point, Nakano developed a visual journey exploring memory, desire, life and death.

The book brings together dark black-and-white photographs, faded purple-toned images and two texts written by the photographer. Moving between reality and imagination, the work creates a mysterious atmosphere where the boundaries between different worlds begin to blur.

The book is beautifully designed by Taiwanese designer Aaron Nieh. Its striking red cloth cover, black pages, carefully selected paper and thoughtful layouts make the physical publication an important part of the experience.
