Toronto-based artist Paul P. is known for his delicate paintings and drawings of young men, inspired by photographs from pre-AIDS gay magazines. Looking to the past, he transforms these archival images into quiet, elegant paintings that give new life to forgotten faces.

This self-titled monograph brings together the works he is best known for—soft oil paintings and watercolors of young men—alongside sculptures, architectural studies, and atmospheric paintings that expand his visual world.

Paul P.’s work explores memory, beauty, desire, and loss. While rooted in queer history, his paintings never feel nostalgic in a simple way. Instead, they invite us to reflect on what remains, what disappears, and how images can carry emotion across generations.
