Preface by Elton John
Afterword by John Hurt

American photographer Greg Gorman is best known for his striking celebrity portraits, photographed over a career spanning more than fifty years.

Published in 2000, As I See It is considered one of his most personal works. The book brings together over 200 portraits of young men—friends, models, and people close to Gorman—captured through his elegant black-and-white style.

Rather than focusing on idealized masculinity, Gorman photographs his subjects in a quieter and more thoughtful way. There is a sense of vulnerability, grace, and confidence throughout the book.

As Gorman described it: “They’re not really boys, yet they’re not really men. They are caught somewhere in between—almost at that point of maturity that defines masculinity.”

A beautifully produced and intimate study of the male form.
