'Surface Streets' is a photographic portrait of Los Angeles by American photographer Daniel Trese.

Originally from LA and now based in Brooklyn, Trese has photographed for publications such as Fantastic Man, Purple, Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue Hommes, and The New York Times. His work often moves between fashion, portraiture, and everyday life with a raw and intimate approach.

Shot mostly on film between 2007 and 2018, Surface Streets documents a changing Los Angeles through its streets, landscapes, artists, and queer community. Strip malls, agave plants, empty boulevards, intimate portraits, and quiet everyday moments all exist side by side.

In this book, queer artists, friends, musicians, and cultural figures become part of a larger portrait of the city itself.

The photographs feel both gritty and personal, like fragments of a Los Angeles still discovering its identity. A beautiful and intimate love letter to LA and its queer creative scene.
