Will McBride (1931–2015) was an American photographer who captured the lives of young people in postwar Germany with striking black-and-white images. After moving to Berlin in the 1950s, he documented the country’s fast-changing culture, especially from the perspective of youth.

Though he later explored painting, sculpture, and illustration, it’s his raw and honest photography that continues to resonate—often compared to the work of Nan Goldin and Wolfgang Tillmans.

This book 'I, Will Mcbride', published in 1997, looks back at McBride’s long career. It includes photos from his early days in the U.S., his time in the military, and his life in Germany—leading up to his bold and controversial work Show Me, a photo essay on sex education.
