Kishin Shinoyama (1940–2024) was one of Japan’s most influential photographers, known for his intimate celebrity portraits and bold nude studies over a career that lasted more than sixty years.

'White Room' is considered the first commercially published male nude photobook in Japan. It is the second title in his monochrome nude series, following 'Water Fruit', and features Japanese actor Masahiro Motoki.

Photographed on the remote islands of Okinawa, the book captures the male body in moments of stillness and change. There is sensuality here, but also vulnerability — a quiet look at masculinity, softness, and emotion.
