‘The Barefoot Promise’ by Brussels-based French artist Pierre Leguillon is a playful and thoughtful look at foot fetishism through movie stills from Western films. From classic Hollywood to French New Wave, the book reveals how feet have been used to express hidden fantasies and ideas about gender in European and American cinema.
Designed like a film itself, the book is based on Leguillon’s long-running project The Promise of the Screen, which explores the overlooked details in movies. All the images—vintage lobby cards and press photos—are from the collection of the Museum of Mistakes in Brussels. It even includes an “intermission” and a special feature by artist Louise Lawler.
