In 'Cosmologies', Mikael Owunna reimagines the Black body as part of the universe — powerful, eternal, and divine. Using ultraviolet light and fluorescent paint, he photographs his models in complete darkness, revealing glowing constellations across their skin.

A Nigerian-Swedish American artist and engineer, Mikael Owunna explores the intersections of visual media with engineering, optics, Blackness, and African cosmologies. His work seeks to elucidate an emancipatory vision of possibility that pushes Black people beyond all boundaries, restrictions, and frontiers.
